Camille Gibbs spent her life helping others, worked full-time, and was a mid-life student on the verge of accomplishing her life-long dream of a college degree.  Prior to her heartbreaking murder in 1991, Ms. Gibbs was an IDS/PACE major who began her studies here in 1989; she is one of the few persons who have been awarded a posthumous degree from CSUDH.  She was an exceptional person.  Her husband, Leroy, said she had lived a full life but wanted to do much more, and she felt special pride as an African American woman pursuing her bachelor’s degree. The week of her murder, the following quote from Leroy Gibbs appeared in The Daily News: “Many blacks face disadvantages during the early education years, and she considered this an accomplishment.  Every A that she got, she deserved,” he said.  “Her life was finally coming to fruition – all her dreams were coming true.  This is not the way it should have ended.”  In her honor, her family and co-workers joined with her fellow students and her professors to establish a scholarship in her name that would help future IDS/PACE students returning as adults to college.

Emily Colville has been a dedicated employee of University Advancement since October 2019. Her passion for the arts is deeply rooted within her family of artists whose artistry is in performing and fine arts. The Marcie Stewart Memorial Scholarship is awarded to currently enrolled undergraduate students majoring one of the STEM disciplines. This scholarship was created in memory of Marcie Stewart, a CSUDH alumna who majored in mathematics and taught for the department. Students are selected based on academic performance and promise.

• Must be a student pursuing their preliminary teaching credential and an added authorization in computer science
• Must have, or be in a process of completing, a computer science undergraduate degree

• For first-time and transferring students pursuing degrees in music

• Must have been recognized by the faculty, scenic/costume/lighting/sound designers, and technical staff as a skilled student excelling in technical theatre

• Scholarships for Continuing Graduate Students: This scholarship provides one-time financial support for continuing graduate students who are in their second or third year of their degree program and are expected to graduate in Spring 2027 or Spring 2028. Continuing students in the following programs are eligible to apply: MSW, MFT, Clinical Psychology (LPCC pathway), and School & College Counseling. Students on a licensure or credentialing pathways are also eligible to apply.

• Scholarships for Newly Admitted (1st Semester) Graduate Students: This scholarship supports newly admitted graduate students beginning in Fall 2026. Once awarded, students may continue receiving scholarship support through degree completion, provided they remain in good academic standing, maintain full-time enrollment, and stay on track toward graduation and professional licensure or credentialing preparation. Students on the following paths are eligible: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC); School & College Counseling (with the Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential).

• Scholarships for Undergraduate Human Services Students: Seniors (90 semester units or higher) enrolled in the Certified Wellness Coach-II (CWC-II) pathway are eligible for scholarship support. Students must complete program requirements and provide verification of their CWC-II certification application by the end of the program.

• Maintain full-time enrollment by completing required full-time coursework established by the academic program (full time status is 8 or more units for graduates and 12 or more for undergraduates) 
• Be in good academic standing (GPA 3.0 higher) and remain on track for timely graduation within their program timeline

  • Completing internships and clinical training serving children, youth, and families in underserved communities
  • Working in LA County, with preference given to candidates in the South and East LA regions

  • The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership for Justice at CSUDH
• Candidate plans to work in the Los Angeles area with children in Early Childhood Education (preschool through 3rd grade) AND/OR plans to work with and support Black children, youth, or educators.  

• Candidates who have previously received a TTLA Graduate Scholarship for the same program are not eligible. 
• Candidate must meet requirements to apply and be considered for the TTLA Graduate Scholarship.
• TTLA Graduate Scholarships will be awarded for the following academic year, 2027-2028, starting in the fall semester.

Winston Russell Hewitt (1922-2006) had a long career as a traveler, a multi-linguist, an OSS officer, and a Distinguished Professor of French literature. Winston Russel Hewitt Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Art is for junior and senior students studying Art in the Art Department housed in the College of Arts and Humanities at CSUDH.

Amounts: $1,000-$5,000

Requirements:

• A Junior or Senior student studying Art at CSUDH and have taken or is enrolled in ART 380. It is expected that the student is serious about their artistic study in painting and has a life-long interest in pursuing their art

• Returning in for the 2027-2028 year 

• In good academic standing with the department and the University

• Agrees to use the award to offset the cost of books, tuition and lodging associated with the pursuit of their degree at CSUDH

• Turns in a timely and complete scholarship application and agrees to comply with all dates and deadlines associated with dispensation of this award

• Demonstrates their artistic talent through actual works (Portfolio submission required)

• Is working to become a professional artist

• Agrees to attend and participate in any type of activities designed to market the scholarship

Directions for Portfolio Submission: Submit a PDF or Word Document with a link from a file hosting service such as Dropbox or Google Drive where your Digital Portfolio can be viewed. Include up to 6 paintings. You may submit up to three images for each painting.  The more cohesive the body of work the more points will be awarded.  Provide a brief artist’s statement that explains content and meaning of the painting you are submitting (no more than 100 words).
